Since July 2000 Queens College has been working in partnership with Cisco Systems to develop local academies for the Cisco Networking Academy Program. The primary focus of these academies is to train network specialists, IT technicians, engineers, and professionals in the skills necessary for success in the field of Internet technology. In the past five years Queens College has provided training and support to local academy instructors and students in Queens and the greater metropolitan area. The college currently administers 20 such academies. In January 2004 Queens College became a Regional Academy for the Cisco Wireless and Security Program. Queens was also one of only four colleges (including Columbia, NYU, and Stanford) selected by Cisco to host the International E-Learning Conference for Educational Leaders in Europe
